Check out the top ten BEST posts of 2015 from Just Plain Marie.
It's kind of crazy to think that 2015 is almost over. Does it ever seem to you that the years go faster as you get older? Anyway, with that said, I'm extremely excited about 2016. Hopefully it won't go whooshing by as fast!
Hey, if you enjoy this collection of my top ten posts, take a moment and share it. There are share buttons to make it easy for you.
#10 What About Dish Soap? It seems many people are interested in how dishes were done before dish soap was invented. This information comes from one of the first books written on the then-new subject of Home Economics.
#9. Survive In The Woods With Your Every Day Carry. This post absolutely rocks on Pinterest. From the moment it was pinned, this one tops the list of my analytics. If you haven’t read it, check it out and see if you can figure out the appeal!
#8 12 Questions To Ask About Homestead Land – and Free Printable. If you haven’t got the printable, it’s an organized list of 95 questions that you need to be asking before you buy that rural property. Actually, most of the questions would likely be good to know for properties in town, too.
#7 How To Manage Survival Mode – I think this is something that many of us can relate to, since there are always times in our lives when everything needs to be simplified to just the necessities. Pretty cool to see this in the top ten for 2015.
#6 Does It Take A Village To Homestead? This one ties in well with my post, Dealing With Freeloaders, which narrowly missed the top ten group. Do homesteaders need a community around to bail them out?
Five great posts, but the five best, as voted with your visits, likes and shares, are still to come!
#5 21 Tips To Start Your Homestead Right – Learn from some of the mistakes that we made in our first couple of years. We definitely learned (the hard way) a number of things to NOT do.
#4 10 Skills To Survive A World Without Oil – I know it’s a depressing thought, but it’s a reality that we are going to be experiencing eventually. How do we adapt to a world with limited, or no, petroleum oil?
#3 33 Ways To Keep Warm Without Heat or Electricity – Yes, you’ll find plenty of posts around about how to manage with the heat turned low, but I’m talking about when there’s no power or fuel to be had.
#2 How To Keep House Like A Mennonite – You know, I’m shocked. Considering how popular this has been, I thought it would make #1. This was a tongue-in-cheek post written because so many people think the Mennonites are perfect homemakers. They aren’t. Although most of them have learned homemaking skills from childhood, they’re ultimately just like the rest of us.
And the #1 post of 2016 is …
Living Without Refrigeration – This is something I definitely did not see coming. It seems that people are either fascinated by what the weird people without a fridge are doing, or they’re interested in trying it out. With an incredible 36,000+ unique views since it was written this April (yes, that ONE post), my piece on living without a fridge is definitely the reader favourite!
Regarding our weirdness, though – friends were visiting last week and had been here all day, including meals. As evening approached, I mentioned putting something in the cooler and our friend looked surprised. “Hey – you don’t have a fridge!” So clearly, it’s not glaringly obvious.
So what do you think? Was your favourite Just Plain Marie post here?
