Saturday Round Up for September 24, 2016
Something new starting today! You’re already familiar with our #SustainableSundays link party on Sundays. As of today, the Saturday Round Up, previously only available for email subscribers, is going to be online. Each week, I highlight some really great posts and products from around the web and share them with my readers. And it’s become very popular. But since only a few thousand of you receive these emails, the fabulous bloggers I want to highlight aren’t receiving the attention I’d like them to get.
And so begins the web version of the Saturday Round Up. This will follow the same basic format each week, with an introduction from me, the best sustainable and self-reliant posts that I have found, and at least one fabulous product that I think you’ll enjoy and find useful. That means that, yes, there will likely be affiliate links (but I’m not a pushy salesperson – you’ll see).
Food and Cooking
Are you any of you into Clean Eating? Even if you’re not, this Cherry Banana Nice Cream from Emily at That’s What I Eat looks delicious. And considering the ingredients, it’s healthy enough for breakfast … or a snack or of course dessert! She also offers a Clean Eating Boot Camp for free.
I’ve seen a few sites raving about this new kind of “garlic soup” that can cure the cold, flu or even rotovirus, but it’s nothing new. I first made 40 Clove Garlic Soup about twenty years ago. It’s delicious and oh, yea, it’ll cure what ails you. So I found a good recipe for you.
This was shared on my Facebook page, but it’s worth sharing here, too. Mindy of Farm Fit Living posted the recipe to her State Farm Champion Zesty Tomato Salsa recipe. If you’re a lover of salsa, and I know many people are, you’ll need to check this out.
Kim at Frugal Minded Mom has Seven Items I Do NOT Buy At Sam’s Club. Here in Canada, that would be Costco. But of course this applies to any big box store where you expect better prices.
Here’s a great post I saved called How Meal Planning Saved My Family Money. Because it does. No matter what method you use, planning meals ahead of time is going to save you big money.
My good friend Danielle (generally known as my BBF – Blogging Best Friend!) has been doing an amazing series this month on Grab & Go Gifts for your gift closet. You do have a gift closet, right? It’ll save you a fortune year-round. Anyway, you’ll want to take a look at all of them and definitely subscribe, but I want to bring your attention to the Wall Decal project. I just might need to get a Silhouette Machine of my own, considering how many wall decals are on my Amazon wish list!
Have you heard the news about antibacterial soaps? This post from Brown Thumb Mama lets you know the truth about them.
This post on Huffington Post from an Oprah Magazine writer is fabulous. The Real Reason You’re So Tired All the Time.
I’m not sure whether this should be in health or frugality or … I don’t know. But I recently read about bamboo toothbrushes. Perhaps it’s something I should have known about before, but I didn’t. Anyway, just in case you had never heard of them, you can get sustainable toothbrushes made from bamboo! I’m definitely getting these next time I replace our toothbrushes.
And this – We’re Thinking About ADHD All Wrong. As a person who has always struggled with my attentional capacity and now has children who have that same tendency to get distracted by a blowing leaf on their way to take out the garbage, I can’t love this article enough!
Ultimate Healthy Living Bundle
It’s that time of year again. Ultimate Bundles has returned with their Ultimate Healthy Living Bundle 2016. The value is absolutely incredible (something like $2400 worth of ebooks and ecourses at 98% off, plus over $250 in bonuses) and it’s only available until Monday night (Monday, September 26). Take a moment and check it out. Because I’m an affiliate, I got mine months ago and it’s amazing. And yes – I’m an affiliate, I get paid when you buy through me and I thank you very, very much if you do.
If you’re new here, you might wonder where the sales pitch is. I’m not really good at them, and they always sound like … well, like a sales pitch. So this is what I do. I show you the stuff I think is incredible, let you know why, and trust that you know your needs and budget better than I do. If you have any questions, just give me a holler. I’m pretty friendly.
